SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Broad River Retail, one of the nation’s largest independently owned and operated Ashley Store licensees, is developing a new 44,900-square-foot Ashley Store and Outlet at Jetport Plaza in South Portland, Maine. Scheduled to open in the first half of 2026, this location marks the company’s first store in the state of Maine, extending its growing presence into northern New England.
“Our entry into Maine marks an important new chapter for Broad River Retail,” said Charlie Malouf, Chief Executive Officer. “We’re expanding our footprint across the country while staying true to the standards and culture that built Broad River. After more than 16 years since another Ashley licensee exited the market, we’re bringing the Ashley Store concept back to the Greater Portland area and to South Portland. This is our first store in the Northeast, and it is vitally important to our expansion plans in this part of the country. We couldn’t be more excited to announce this flagship location and milestone.”
The store will be located next to Staples in one of South Portland’s busiest retail corridors, with quick access to Interstates 95 and 295. It’s also close to the Maine Mall and Portland International Jetport, making it an easy stop for shoppers across Greater Portland.
“As we continue to grow beyond our home base in the Carolinas, opening our first store in Maine is an important milestone for our company,” said Manny Rodrigues, President and Chief Operating Officer of Broad River Retail. “The Greater Portland region demonstrates strong retail demand and sustained growth, making it a natural market for our expansion. This new showroom will also introduce the Ashley Luxe exclusive collection to the area for the first time.”
The new Ashley Store and Outlet will feature Ashley’s latest 7.0 showroom design, offering a bright, open concept with complete lifestyle vignettes and curated room collections. Guests will be able to shop furniture and décor for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and youth spaces. The location will also include a Sleep Shop featuring mattresses from Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster, Sealy, Purple, Nectar, and Ashley Sleep.
Broad River Retail is exploring options for industrial space to establish a distribution center in the region. The expansion will initially create about 45 jobs across various roles, including retail sales, retail leadership, and distribution center operations. Broad River Retail is looking to hire key positions, including general manager and district manager, to oversee retail sales in the market. Interested candidates can email talentteam@shopashley.com.
